The problem
On a packed terrace, customers wait for the waiter to bring the menu, come back to take the order and, at the end, take payment. Each of those waits is a table that takes longer to turn over and a waiter who can’t keep up.
What we did
A digital menu for each table that opens by scanning a QR code or tapping the phone on an NFC tag. From there customers order without waiting, see their bill, call the waiter and pay from their phone, even their friends’ bill at another table.
For the bar, a panel with the terrace drawn on a floor plan. Tables change colour when an order comes in, they can be moved, joined and split with a finger, and the kitchen and the bar each have their own order screen. The manager changes prices, marks dishes as sold out and sees the day’s takings without touching code.
It also has takeaway orders: customers pick the time, pay when ordering or on arrival and get a link with the status of their order.
The result
The bar is testing a tool of its own, with its brand, its menu and its way of working. Once it is up and running, customers will order whenever they like and the team will spend their time serving, not taking orders.
